Design & Business Transformation Award:
Crafford-LaserStar Technologies

The Success by Design Design Transformation award is given to an area business that has transformed itself by designing a new product or redesigning an existing one. This year's award will be presented to James Gervais, Executive Vice President of Crafford-LaserStar Technologies. Located in East Providence, Rhode Island, Crafford-LaserStar began in 1957 as a traditional business servicing the local jewelry manufacturing community. For the first time in its 50 year history, Crafford-LaserStar applied professional industrial design to create what is known as the LaserStar® product family, a series of portable, micro-welding and micro-marking laser workstations ideal for the use in jewelry, dental, and industrial fields. What began as an effort to reduce manufacturing costs and distance themselves from the competition, resulted in unprecedented growth and global success for Crafford-LaserStar Technologies.
